Description

The needs of students at WKCTC extend beyond the classroom.
Each year, hundreds of students are faced with hardships and unexpected expenses. At WKCTC, the Student Emergency Fund exists to provide support to students facing these hurdles that traditional financial aid may not cover. These unmet needs add unnecessary stress to students trying to complete their education and succeed in life beyond WKCTC.

And the need is greater than ever!

Since 2019, requests to the Student Emergency Fund have risen by 835%.

The launch of the "Get Help" campaign

In 2024, the Get Help campaign was initiated by the Dean of Students to better promote and utilize the Student Emergency Fund. This campaign saw colorful signage placed throughout campus, with informative graphics and dignified messaging. Information kiosks were placed around campus, offering valuable services from available resources, and the Campus Cupboard saw new processes put in place to streamline the experience.

Some of the most common non-academic needs of our students are things like transportation, food insecurity, course fees and required materials, and medical emergencies.

Examples of commonly requested items and their average costs:

$25 - Gas cards/transportation needs

$70 - Drug/background screenings for programs/certifications

$88 - Food insecurity

$185 - Utility/Bill payments
